The 2019-2020 bushfires in Australia were one of the most devastating events in recent history. The fires burnt an estimated 18.6 million hectares, destroyed over 3,500 homes and killed at least 34 people. One billion animals were estimated to have been killed. The cost of dealing with the bushfires is expected to exceed the $4.4 billion and tourism sector revenues fell below more than $1 billion.

‘Still Burning’ is a series of photographs juxtaposing the devastation and regrowth in bushfire affected areas of the NSW South Coast region. This series has been photographed on Kodak Aerochrome - an infrared colour film renowned for it’s pink/red rendering of foliage. The effect focuses on the regrowth in burnt trees, while symbolising the rebuilding efforts of affected communities. At the same time, the infrared colours eerily mimic flames engulfing the landscape, and reminding us that these communities are still struggling - the fires may be out, but the story doesn’t end there.

All profits from print sales in this series will be donated to local bushfire relief and rebuilding groups and local indeginous communites. IF you’d like to donate directly instead please visit - South Coast Donation Logistics Team and Mogo Aboriginal Community & Rangers fund.

The virtual Minecraft exhibition is now closed but please take a video tour of what the event was like!
